Pumpkinhead Is Coming!

Posted by Andy Gradel | News & Notes | Thursday, 24 July 2008

pumpkinhead aleI’m an insane pumpkin devotee. As Fall draws nearer, I sometimes find myself yearning for a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, a pumpkin pie ice cream sundae, some pumpkin bread or a dozen yummy Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Donuts… ahhhh, pumpkin spice season… Some people talk about packing on a couple pounds during the holidays. For me, the weight-gain season spans September, October, November, December and possibly even into January depending on what tasty pumpkin foods and drinks are still lingering. (I even started a Squidoo page dedicated to pumpkin spice a few months ago, but never really finshed the thing…)

So, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, you can understand why I was so excited to see this blurb in Shipyard Ale’s e-mail newsletter:

Pumpkinhead is on its way! This fan favorite is brewing!  It’s almost that time.  Pumpkinhead will be available in our gift shop at 86 Newbury Street on August 15th!  Be sure to stock up this year.  We usually sell out early.

And with that, the official start of pumpkin season is just three weeks away! If you’ve never had Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale, you’ve been missing out on my favorite pumpkin brew. I’ve tried a handful of them and I keep finding myself going back to Pumpkinhead.

From the moment it hits the glass, you can smell the pumpkin. It’s a great brew with a strong, spicy taste that contains hints of caramel. For me, it’s the perfect session beer that works amazingly well with Sunday afternoon football and wings.

So, I’m guessing that it won’t be available everywhere on the 15th of August, but that won’t stop me from checking the local stores to see if they’ve got a case with my name on it.

Bring on the pumpkin!
