Patagonia Negra Intensa and Antares Brews to be Distributed in the U.S.

Aladin BeersAladdin Beverage, which currently distributes Devassa from Brazil, Kross from Chile, Green Man from New Zealand and Patagonia from Argentina, is expanding their offerings with two new brews from South America: Patagonia Negra Intensa and Antares Beer.

Antares Beer is Argentina’s fastest-growing premium beer from New Patagonia Brewery and is “specially brewed to be extra smooth and less grassy, Antares is a refreshing, full flavored, super premium lager.”

Brewed at the New Patagonia Brewery in the southernmost region of Latin America, at Mar del Plata, Argentina, the brewery’s offerings include: Kolsch Beer, Scotch Ale Beer, Porter Beer, Imperial Stout beer, and Barley Wine Beer. All are available both in 330ml and 600 ml amber glass bottles.

As for Patagonia Negra Intensa, it is an exotic, dark stout that will reportedly be available in late summer. It can be compared in style to Negra Modelo, Mexico’s top selling dark beer, which sold 3.2 million cases in the U.S. in 2006. Patagonia Negra Intensa’s flavor originates from dark-roasted, pure malted special barleys with a cross of sweet and bitter flavors.

When Did Every Day Become Cinco de Lime-o?

Limey BeerDid I miss the memo about limes being the new “thing” for beer? I mean, for years and years, the only beer I associated with limes was Corona. And, I was (and still am) ok with that because there’s something about the act of slicing up an actual lime, dropping it in the bottle and then trying your best to not let your beer splurt all over the place while you turn the whole thing upside down. Hell, that’s half the fun of summer barbeques.

Then, last summer, odd things started happening. A-B rolled out Landshark Lager with Jimmy Buffett’s blessing. If you haven’t tried it, it’s basically Bud with a touch of lime. Or, as I posted up back in February, it’s a slightly limey beer for those too lazy to slice limes.

East Meets West: Magic Hat And Pyramid to Merge?

Posted by Andy Gradel | News & Notes | Saturday, 03 May 2008

Magic Hat - PyramidOver the past few months, I’ve become a big fan of Magic Hat and their 12-pack samplers that always seem to hit the spot. Apparently I’m not the only one, as the brewer is doing well enough to gobble up a premier West Coast microbrewery - Pyramid Breweries Inc.

Magic Hat Brewing will acquire Pyramid through an all-cash tender offer and subsequent merger, at $2.75 per share of Pyramid common stock. The closing of the proposed transaction is anticipated to occur by the end of August.

From what both companies are saying, it sounds like it’ll be business as usual as far as beer drinkers are concerned, with no immediate changes to either brewer’s lineups planned.
