Stevens Point Brewery Introduces Point Einbock and Horizon Wheat
I’ve been writing a lot lately about how Philly’s a great beer town, but the state of Wisconsin more than holds it’s own. I just tried a tasty “explorer” 12-pack of Leinenkugel that I’ll be writing about shortly, but first it’s some news for our friends in the midwest from one of the oldest breweries in the United States: Stevens Point.
They’re rolling out a new, seasonal maibock-style bock beer called Point Einbock which will be available through May in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles and kegs in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. Einbock is hand-crafted using Munich and Vienna specialty malts and a blend of Bavarian Hallertauer hops. Acccording to Stevens Point Brewmaster John Zappa, maibock beers were originally brewed in Germany for May Day celebrations.
“Einbock is true to the maibock style. It is full-bodied, malty and slightly sweet with a robust head,” Stevens Point Brewmaster John Zappa said. “It is moderately hopped and has a deep golden, almost coppery color, lighter than the dark brown of many other bock beers. Maibock is a unique style of bock beer and we are excited to brew Einbock this winter so our loyal customers can enjoy an exceptional bock beer this spring.”
Joining Steven’s year-round lineup is Point Horizon Wheat. Point Horizon Wheat, an unfiltered American-style wheat ale, is sold in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles and kegs. Golden in color, Point Horizon Wheat is brewed with malted spring wheat, specialty barley malts and Yakima hops, and is top-fermented with American ale yeast.
“The wheat imparts a unique, citrus-like character to the beer’s flavor,” said Zappa. “Point Horizon Wheat is unfiltered and features a thick, creamy white head. This new beer is smooth, well-balanced and thirst-quenching. It’s the perfect style of beer to garnish with a slice of lemon, lime or orange, and it is a great accompaniment for many types of food, complementing pasta dishes and other grain-based foods especially well.”
